Yeah I am working on it. Phase one was move the daughter abroad a few years ago and get her to marry well for my retirement. Phase two is to get her to move away from the USA lol as there is no way on earth I would live there!
Last thing we need is a sensible post! I'm just glad I'm not an Evertonian living round here. All the piss taking goes their way. To date Saints are going unnoticed. Feel sorry for fans living near Brighton!
Nicked from @tomw24 on the match thread: 1. Won the game. 2. Won a home league game for the first time since August 3. Kept a clean sheet 4. We scored from open play 5. Fortune was on our side for once 6. We're off the bottom I will add 7. Results elsewhere good for us. 8. Our form in last 7 games is now 3 wins giving us 9 points, West Ham have 8 points, Leicester have 7, Everton have 6, Bournemouth have 5, Leeds have 5, Palace have 5. Only Wolves with 10 and Forest with 11 have more than us out of the teams in danger of relegation. 9. Alcaraz has scored 2 goals in his first 2 starts.
Great result, we didn't perform at our best but dug in and got the result. Surprised to not see Onuachu come on, but we just about made it. Adam Armstrong isn't good enough, Djenepo would have been better.
- Alcaraz looks decent. (Hope his knee is OK) - Che played well. We know he can’t finish but if we can get players around him, maybe we can score from open play occasionally
I get the feeling now that we are starting to form a unit. There's a bit of a shape and form to how we played in 2/3 last games again. Alcaraz and Armstrong as 10's could be really influential. JWP and Lavia behind and we have a strong double pivot. Adams up front is not good in a solo role but playing off Sulemana or Paul he can be excellent as we saw today.
Guardian 10 talking points underlining Theo Walcott's value to the team. 9) Wise Walcott may be Saints saviour Against Leicester, Theo Walcott plugged on gamely down Southampton’s right flank, leaving the field just past the hour to loud applause from the home fans. It was from Walcott’s cross that Timothy Castagne conceded the penalty James Ward-Prowse missed. After Carlos Alcaraz had scored the eventual winner in the first half, the prodigal son – whose teammates in his first spell at the club included Dennis Wise, now 56 – led the rearguard effort. Walcott’s contract expires this summer, and he was making a first league start since November but said, behind the scenes, he has been “trying to help out the young players” as interim manager Rubén Sellés works to keep Saints up. “I’ve never really experienced so many manager changes and I’m nearly 34,” Walcott said. “It’s very disruptive.” Now, given a taste of action, he wants to play a fuller part. “People think I’ve been injured but I haven’t been, I’ve been here.”
Credit to Walcott. Been one of our best players the last couple of games. I think that says more about the state of the club than anything else, but it’s nice to see that one of the players genuinely cares. He’s definitely one of the few positives right now.
We all know he's not very good anymore but his effort and enthusiasm can't be criticised. And his experience on the field I think genuinely does help.
A big positive was Che’s awareness for the through ball. Three key moments came from his passing awareness. The ball to Walcott for the penalty. The ball for Charly to score. The ball to put Sulemana through, which just needed to be flatter. If we play that quartet from now on, we will create chances from open play.
He's been quite good in his last games, good enough to warrant a start and hold his own until subbed off knackered. His value in the dressing room is priceless.
1) A clean sheet. 2) 3 clean sheets in 4 since RS has become manager. 3) 7 points from 12. 4) We didn't lose to 10 men! 5) We drew a match! I know a win would be better but we've not drawn for so long, maybe we would have lost this game earlier this season. The ability to at least not lose will be invaluable.
I’m positive that if we go down, we will go down fighting; and that’s good enough for me right now. UTS
I think that Ruben has virtually found his best starting XI and formation moving forward and I expect the performances to get better the longer they play together.
