Felt alright when I get up this morning. As I walked into the physio centre, I tripped on a raised bit of carpet, fortunately I didn't fall over but it jarred my back. Then the physio ragged me about. Hurting now :(

Off to Orlando for a conference. Work ... But change of pace and lots of free time. Only three days conference but get a travel day today and Friday so two free days in Florida. Of course, it is during a cold snap, so Florida will only be mildly warm, not hot. Probably can't be naked.

    It'd a 2/3 hour? Flight max?

You've 3 days bunga bungs with any fit birds you can pull at this conference (you all do it cos otherwise you'd have to sleep though the boredom)

A full day travel for a couple hours = breakfast, lunch and dinner all paid for both ways as well.

It's a tech conference and in the past it's always been 99% male... Even if I weren't married.

Not a direct flight... So will get there a little before noon, left at 7am.. set my Friday flight to leave late in evening... So yes, two days almost like free vacation. Always try and plan it that way.

did you get a nice rental as well?

BTW... why not a direct flight?

I didn't book my flight. Company did. I don't know if no direct flights from home, or it was cheaper to do one with a layover. I suspect the latter. American airline companies are weird... It's cheaper to take flights with a layover than it is to go direct. It's also cheaper for me to fly to Atlanta by buying a ticket to a random destination, say Nashville for example, that has a layover in Atlanta (and just not getting on my connecting flight) than it is to buy a ticket just to Atlanta.

It's probably not 99% male, that's an exaggeration, I don't know the numbers... Definitely over 90% though... Probably close to 95%. Last session I attended was probably about 80 people... Probably 2 women in there. It's always way less than IT workforce.

Conference actually runs Monday through Friday, but it's workshops Monday and Friday. Most people only come for the talks on Tuesday through Thursday. But yes, I could have left Thursday and initially planned to but my boss actually suggested for me to take the extra day... She's always pushing for us to get extra perks.... It's things like that which probably explain why after ten years of working there, I'm still one of the newer people on my team. <laugh>

Also regarding "this day and age of IT workers". Boomers and gen X seem to have higher % of women in IT than Millennials and Get Z. Ratios are more male than ever... Or at least appear to be in my own limited experience... Which is never scientific or accurate.

I know it's not real... but I want this job my scout in FM has... Watch 6 games in 2 months and get paid for it. I think I watch more than 6 games in a 2 month span already! (although, If I had to watch North American teams- maybe I would only watch six).

Just read that Facebook pays tax prep companies to get all the data on how much people earn and also how much taxes they pay in the US. UK, not having such absurd tax laws it's probably not an issue.

And almost all the major tax prep companies here in the US are on the hook for selling customer data to Facebook.

A few years ago I read about how Facebook had deal with several major banks that allowed them to see which customers had which kind of accounts in them. (Knowing how much money people make is useful when picking products to advertise)

Really quite sickening how much private data companies are able to legally buy. Companies like Facebook, Google, apple, and Microsoft probably know more about any of us than we know about ourselves.

I shouldn't worry mate. the UK will probably catch up quickly with the US concerning these types of abuses of privacy.

We are out of the EU and their pesky GDPR laws so I'm sure a tory will get round to selling all our data soon enough, probably have done so already.

the hilarity of the brexiteer argument is that rich exploitative people like Farage got working class racists to vote to give rich people the right to exploit them even more.

virtually every worker right, protection and privacy law we have date form EU and UK had input to them. we will now move toward deletion of all and replacement with tory benefactor laws.

It's funny how in many countries all around the world the pattern is repeated. The middle tends progressive but the richest and the very poorest tend to lean towards policies that benefit the rich...

I think it's because the rich obvious want what's best for them, and the poorest all think they'll magically be rich one day. They have a Del-boy syndrome going. They dream desperately to be rich, where the middle are comfortable enough to not believe ludicrous fantasies of magically being rich.

I honestly think that at times dangling a few worms is all the rich need to keep the working classes in line. Keep the price of beer and whatever other vices in line and the masses will just go along.

All they needed as a few slogans and hate on the foreigners and they got brexit. "money for the nhs" "throw out the poles", "justice in the uk" etc.

the amount of people who've voted for Brexit with an absolute tosh minor reason compared to all the things they gave up is unreal.

European court of human rights for example. founded by Britain in 1946. Tories want out cos well... why? a higher standard to be applied in Britain or just be able to control the level of rights being applied.

People voting for pounds and ounces (have heard that said)

People voting for 350mil to nhs a week (where is it)

People voting for end of EU dictatorship (what about the veto of eu laws and changes, thats now gone)

If people were really honest with themselves 99% never had an actual issue with an EU rule, law or regulation, in fact they benefitted from them but they voted out cos there were too many foreigners walking round (just ignore the Russians owning half of London here or anything got to do with commonwealth)

the single market was a 47 year construct starting small with west and expanding massively to create a 500million people doorstep market for UK industry, a tariff and customs free market. We threw that away and decided that trading with tariffs to china and Australia or whatever would be much better just as long as foreigners were not allowed in

Now we have tories telling the working class that "some" migration is needed to pick crops and do whatever and the working class will lap it up.

I've always thought that what makes a lot of working-class people vote for the Tories (a party that fails to represent them totally) is the dream that they too might magically become rich one day and they don't want those damn socialists taking it away.
