I’m pleased with most of what Bowyer has done with a p1ss poor budget ....but it’s going to be nowhere near enough I was talking to a knowledgeable Aston Villa fan yesterday who reckons we are definitely interested in taking Glen Whelan on a free transfer. Amos, Purrington, Maybury and Williams are good signings who can hold their own in the Championship. Neither Bonne or Aneke are going to be good enough at that level, IMO. Whatever the question is, Callum Harriott is not the answer to it. We still need a holding midfielder, a creative midfielder, a winger and one extra striker - minimum. I would take 45 points and a 21st finish now if it was offered.
Apparently he is not a left back, he is right footed. Dijksteel has been given an ultimatum. If he doesn't sign his new contract he will be sold. They don't want to go down the same road as Aribo.
We need to keep Djiksteel, although I wouldn’t want to see him starting at full back in the Championship.
Our strongest starting X1 v Blackburn as things stand - Phillips Solly Purrington Pearce Sarr Pratley Forster - Caskey Williams Lapslie Taylor Bonne Sorry - that midfield is fvcking awful. I will be wearing my bicycle clips at Ewood Park.
With Eddie Nketiah scoring goals for fun on Arsenal's pre season tour of USA I can't see them letting him go anywhere on loan this summer (as Bows has already said)
From the NewsShopper with regard to Harriott "Though it also appears there is considerable distance between the two parties in terms of a permanent deal." ….. let's save us all time and let him go now, not a Bowyer type player.
There is nothing on Harriott’s CV that says we should be wasting scarce resources on him. He’s another Fosu / Marshall.
I agree about Harriott. Signing him or Josh Magennis again will be a plain act of desperation. It could not be dressed up as anything else even by Lee Bowyer, and I would like to think he wouldn't insult the intelligence of Charlton fans by trying to.
I see Magennis hasn’t been paid by Bolton for 5 months and is one of their players trying to terminate his contract. I don’t blame him, but as a player he simply isn’t good enough for the Championship.
I’ve just read in the Newshopper that Lee Bowyer wants Albie Morgan to go out on loan this season. A sensible decision IMO. He would benefit from getting 40-50 games under his belt at a lower level.
agreed. No doubt Douchatelet thought Morgan would save him the expense of getting a midfielder in, but Bow knows he's not ready, and being part of a midfield overrun week in week out would do the boy no good at all. Wise management, although it probably won't meet with Old Douchy's approval.
i'd take magennis and the other fella bolton have that we like. it's better than what we have now. even if it's not as good as the fans would like
Magennis flopped in the Championship for Bolton last season, and we won’t be much stronger than Bolton this season. He’s a clumsy clodhopper. We still need a partner for Lyle Taylor but they cost money.
our budget = free transfers. who's going to give us a striker for nothing that can bang them in at championship level. we also have the fact that if taylor doesnt sign at some point soon, they'll look at cashing in.
