From day one, I said we should use it, but not in the theatrical way we are.

10-15 seconds review by a bloke in a room.
    No public watching
    No stopping the game
Tell the referee in his ear if, and only if there was a clear and obvious error/something missed.
    10-15 seconds

All of you who dislike the whole concept of VAR will, no doubt, be very happy with this thread - enjoy.

Potentially i think VAR is a good thing as it will 'even up' the game at the bigger stadiums. Last season for instance we would have had two pens at Man Utd. I do accept however that the inclination for refs to get into micro detail to administer rules is a danger. As ever the definition of 'clear and obvious' is open to interpretation and we may still see VAR decisions being characterised.

I agree, which is why I suggest my 10-15 second rule, with no stoppage. If a VAR needs to look at an incident over and over, then don’t. Stick with the original decision, whether right or wrong. This will cut out a large percentage of errors without ruining the game.

10 seconds is nothing. It takes players that long to take a goal kick/argue with the referee/roll on the floor/play handbags with an opponent (delete as appropriate) anyway, so no time damage really.

Well this could be an interesting season then. Hopefully it works, the amount of abuse the incompetent refs get is too far, all be it I have been known to do it as well. I wonder if any will sin bin 6/7 players at once?

As long as they don't use it for hairline-type offside decisions, I'm happy with it.

If you have to sin bin multiple players in a game then something has gone badly wrong for the referee.

Out of interest what would you sin bin somebody for? Telling you to **** off if you give a free kick against them for example?

That's a great idea, as long as you don't mind how long it takes to print it. Probably 15 minutes longer than normal.

Nope. I would send them off for that. I would sin bin someone if they sarcastically applauded me or slammed the ball into the ground. If someone just gave me back chat I would give them a warning first.

How many reds do you give a game? I don't think many people would last in the leagues I've played in <laugh>

I will give you a scenario that happened to me last season. One of my team mates fouled somebody about 5 yards inside our half and about 5 yards in from the edge of the pitch. Their player then proceeded to move the ball forwards and inwards about 10-15 yards. I said to the ref (relatively politely) "he's moved the ball forward loads" and kicked the ball back to where the foul took place. The guy on the other team got all pissy and moved it forward again so I said to the ref "aren't you going to do anything about this?". He then said to me "why are you moaning so much about 10 yards?" to which I replied "because its the ****ing rules?! And that is why you are here isn't it?". He booked me.

Would that have been a sin bin in your book?

Yeah I am glad Tom doesn't ref me tbh. If he sticks to the straight red for swearing then I wouldn't last too long. Genuinely interested to know how many he dishes out. Think every other free kick given someone says something like "**** off" out of frustration or whatever, but it is still aimed at the ref.

As I'm getting older luckily I'm going down the leagues where as he is going up I believe, unlikely we will ever cross paths (we may have already though)
