If they're near the half way line when it's played through, no way I'm picking Salah, his not quick enough!

    I was responding to...

"The one (hanging on by finger tips) player you could say was world class?"

...btw, Alisson is the ONLY one that is CLEARLY world class in our squad.

    <doh>

I mean you'd buy someone to replace him.

What do you want? Would you give him another contract at £350k, he stays on that till he's 34/35 where he's only coming off the bench. Or he stays next year, doesn't want to reduce wage or doesn't want to sign, leaves on a free, we miss out out a big pay day?

Odd to think that our best forward will be on the bench?

He's just come back from injury not playing his best, but let's discount the previous 6 years in favour of the last 2 months.

Salah is an unbelievable talented player, do you think city are wondering whether to move debryune on, or how to get the best out of him for the remaing years?

    When he's 35. I'd sure hope he'd be only a bench option.

Did you even read what I wrote?

Sorry, I just don't understand the thinking.

Yes Alison is world class, but he was more than ably filled in for by our second choice.

    Yes, I read, I just don't agree.

When he's 35 he will be very similar to what he is now.

Unless we sign someone better he will still be our best forward. Which is slightly depressing

    So the Leicester approach.

Guess they thought the same about not selling Vardy, and guess what he still is their best forward... in the Championship.

We sell Salah, we make money, we buy someone new.
Or We keep Salah, pay him lots of money, he declines and leaves/retires, we miss out on replacing him and hope Nunez learns where the goal is.

That's it, that's the crux of the discussion

What do you want to see happen? So far the only opinion you've put forward is that Salah is our best forward as he has the most goals (a number of which are pens)

I think we need a more clinical striker anyway, we're missing far too many chances. Jota fits the bill, but he's plagued by injuries.
Anyway, we're just chewing the fat here - we're getting a new manager, some things are bound to change.

The Vardy point was that they could have cashed in and replaced, instead of clinging on to a fading talent that's only good in the 2nd tier.

I'm asking what do you think the club should do about Salah.

First off lets say this all depends on a club (probably Saudi) bidding for Salah this summer and offering the right money (again probably £80-£100m ish)

Option 1, is that we turn down any offer and keep him potentially for only another year due to contract.
Option 2, we turn down any offer and keep him, he signs a new contract at the same value. We have a 34/35 at the club being paid £350k in 2/3 years time. He at this point has little to no resale value.
Option 3, we turn down any offer and keep him, he may or may not sign a new contact at a lower rate. This places Salah in charge.
Option 4, We sell if the price is right, use the money to reinvest in the team.

    Things to consider
Salah will be 32 before next season starts, 33 by the time his contract runs out.
He is joint highest wage on £350k per week
    His contract ends summer 2025

Plus he's already regressed and already no longer offers the explosive threat he once did.

Salahs form has dipped but what hasn’t helped is his colleagues ability to finish. He’s creating more chances this season and his expected assists are as good as they ever are.

Of diaz finished the chance Salah produced v city. If Nunez finished either chance he’d created against Everton we could be top of the table and Salahs numbers would rival every other player in the league.

Yes he may not be a 25 goal striker next year, but bar Haaland, not sure if put money on anyone doing that.

but if he scored 15 goals and 10 assists he’ll still be as good as every other wide player in the league.

What’s struck me most over the last few weeks is not how bad Salahs been, but how little we’ve given him the ball. Against Everton, young came on and I don’t remember us passing him the ball once. There were about 5 times I saw him standing out wide for thr ball and every time the CB or midfield would look inside trying to pass through the middle. Even off form, give Salah the ball and let him have a couple runs against young.

That doesn’t help his form and makes him look like he’s doing nothing as he’s not getting involved, but hard to do when your own team won’t pass you the ball.
