We stayed the night at Rob's pub, Stow Maries, the last time we played West Ham. He often sponsored the match when we played Southend away. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I started supporting in 1957, and my hero was Bill Bradbury, however this was soon eclipsed when Houghton, Butler and Waggy came along and Waggy took his place.
I had the pleasure before the Ipswich away game during the season of our first promotion to the Premier League. I can still recall the joy of seeing a huge Hull City 'Dare to Dream' flag fluttering away in the distance from the highest gable end of Rob's fabulous pub, in deepest Essex, as we drove down the winding country roads looking for it.
One of my husband's favourite players as a young kid was Sunderland's Len Shackleton who's autobiography is a book called "The Clown Prince of Soccer". For his 10th birthday back in 1948 he was taken to Roker Park by his dad to see him play. He still has the book.
It sounds as if it was a big success, it's an area the club over the year has not covered well, and great to see some people have taken the time to accumulate all these items. Hopefully, going forward, the club can do something more permanent.
It was very good, but highlights our need for a dedicated HCAFC museum. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Interesting article on the Hull Arts Centre / Spring Street Theatre charity football match organised in 1970 by Alan Plater. https://www.thehullstory.com/allarticles/showbiz-soccer-angus-young-exclusive
I remember it being played and would have gone but had a golf game that day. I knew Alan Plater slightly, my mother-in-law cleaned for him, so met him a couple of times.
