So does anyone have any Intel on exactly when it's happening when we may hear the news? Hopefully all goes well, but have a horrible feeling it won't, Brucey has said all the right things, he's very diplomatic, highlighting the problem of transfers and also saying AA has always backed him. My conspiracy theory was The Allams 'time away' was to chat to prospective buyer/s, if indeed it was just 'time away' it's utterly idiotic at this crucial time. Fingers crossed
I dont buy the whole "time away for discussions with future buyers", the club has effectively beenup for sale for a while now, I think the break away was just that, a bresk from all the controversy recently (relegation, failed drug tests, name change). Timing of bresk not great but not a massive problem, we need to free up funds before we buy, and first few weeks of pre- season is fitness. The big part is the next 10 days, we need to make signings within 10 days to be tactically ready.
I don't think it was seriously up for sale at all. He said it was and the media lap it up, but he was never gonna sell it while the name change was up in the air, not a chance. It probably still isnt for sale, but we live in hope.
The meeting's this afternoon. I doubt anything major will come out of it, mainly because the Allam's need us back in the Premier League and Assem likes Bruce more than he hates us.
If Allam needs us back in the PL then there will be something major coming out of it - bids for players.
He's going a strange way about it regards wanting us back in the PL, bit like turning up at the sale's 6 week's after they started, bugger all left.
It's the lack of planning that get's my goat. I know people will say 'You can't set a budget until you know who's been sold' etc. but I don't see it that way. This meeting should have taken place 3/4 weeks ago, at least. The owners could have set out their plans then. If we need to shift £25m in players then so be it but at least tell the ****ing manager in good time not 2 weeks before the start of the season.
I'm aware of that aspect, my point was they should have had this meeting week's ago to sort out the way forward.
Sorry, you'll get GLP's **** analogy police in a second. I understood what you meant and yes I agree, the meeting should really have been in June or even a week after relegation. It just goes to show they know nothing of how football really works, which is a bit disappointing after 5 years.
His analogy was that of a shop in the sales and that at the end of the sale there's nothing (or very little) left. Which isn't how it works in football is it? There are millions of players worldwide available; for there to be nobody left it would mean every club would have to buy every single player in that window thus tying them down to new contracts and leaving nothing for us. What's more, other clubs buying players often frees up others which allows us to get somebody previously unavailable. So it is in fact a crap analogy, I just had the decency not to be a **** about it. Until now. No offence Pudsey.
The analogy works better if it's second-hand shop next door to a high-end boutique. We can't shop in the boutique because it's too expensive. Some days you go to the second-hand shop and there's not much in. However, other days there's plenty because customers have spent in the high-end shop and then sold unwanted items to the second hand shop. You can uncover a bargain but you have to be patient.
