Tottenham are to press ahead to sign Spain World Cup winner Juan Mata amid fierce competition for the midfielder's signature, including from arch rivals Arsenal. The Spain Under 21 international is a target for Spurs and the Gunners. Liverpool were the early favourites to win the race to sign him, but it seems that the two north London clubs are now at the front of the queue. Mata's current club Valencia claim the two clubs are battling it out to pay £21 million for the winger. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reiterated the club's intention to keep hold of Luka Modric, but the move for Mata is being seen as an attempt to line up a potential replacement for the Croatian playmaker. Arsenal have opened negotiations to sign the player, but Tottenham are still hoping to convince the player to move to White Hart Lane.
Sorry couldn't resist it, with a name like that the media will have a field day with headlines if he does end up in the PL.
He's a left-sided winger, and we already have at least three players who can cover that position for us at least as adequately as him. So, the question I have, is would it really mata if we signed him or not?
Well he'd be Juan of the top earners at the club - if he doesn't deliver, it will Mata to the rest of the players...
Hopefully his dress-sense will improve. Wearing clothes from Mata-lan around Chigwell won't go down too well.
