I get the disappointment but... 1.unbeaten in 11 premier league games 2. 2nd, 2 points off top after 12 games 3. Into the last 32 of EL 4. Still in league cup. 5. A point away to palace ain't terrible
I disagree because you just have to look at what we did as soon as Palace scored. We then dominated and put their goal under seige, which is what we should have done to get a second goal BEFORE they scored.
Jose's strategy is to conserve energy cos we have play 2 or 3 matches more than everyone else and still have the league cup game to come (unlike chelsea and liverpool) and an extra 2 EL matches to come (unlike City, Chelsea and Liverpool). On another day we win today, or lose...a draw is not a terrible result.
Sorry @Spurf but both goals were mistakes and their keeper played a blinder. We have also played 9 games more than Palace in just 13 weeks...they were unsurprisingly stronger in the second half. Like I said, I get the disappointment but most, if not all of us would have been overjoyed if we were offered this after the Everton match.
Even when we were pressing in the first half, Palace were very dangerous on the break. Just look at their front players. The only reason we improved after they scored was because they started to sit back a little to take the point, but they were still able to counter. Their goalie saved them today. How many saves did Hugo have to make and then he gifted them their equalizer. Yes we are disappointed but Palace aren't a given. Everyone will still drop points and we were due to after some good results. The game was end to end and they deserved their point-just a pity their GK played so well.
Yeah but with cleansheets against City, Arsenal and Chelsea in our run up to this one, I don't think it's a bad idea to trust the defence and not try to force things. I think we should've made an earlier sub, particularly with Lucas on the bench but ultimately, I think we created plenty and Palace away is a tough game. Walking away with a point and feeling like we should have won is pretty good.
Would've made more sense than having both Lo Celso and Alli there. Probably a late attempt to try and keep Alli interested and involved, when it would've been better to play him against Antwerp in some fashion.
My eyes tell me that we could have won that game with a different mindset. The game is not just about front players or defenders, IMO we sat back for most of the second half when we should have taken the game by the scruff of the neck. We were clearly the better team in the first half and significantly were again after they had scored their goal. We adopted the same tactics as if we were playing City or Chelsea and it cost us. That's 2 points dropped.
Sorry @remembercolinlee Maybe but I don't buy it we have a squad of sufficient size and quality to play twice a week so that's no excuse, it was not physical IMO it was in the mind, we were just not big enough bastards. I was worried from the start when I saw Jose and Roy cuddling, no good will come of that I thought.
We could have won, we also could have lost. We can't win every game. ( in theory we can but we won't )
Also think crowds returning has really helped home teams. Look at Everton yesterday v Chelsea and Fulham v Liverpool today (not that this on will last).
