I’m in the camp if we should try and qualify for any European competition we can but on the plus side, the extra games means we can get away with a smaller squad so get on with the big clear out then can focus on adding quality rather than bodies.
Normally I feel bad about delivering the coup de grace that sends a team down But on the other hand, I've been waiting 19 years to send Allarshyte down...
Swings and roundabouts. The reality that will drive out the expendables may also drive out the desirables (Gil etc) .
What a shame Villa won and we missed out on the Conference league Our club can do without the euro campaign so that it can get it's house in order New manager doesn't need the stress of a euro tournament with our mess COYS
with the removal of Europe from our schedule, we’ve got no excuse but to play our best team in the domestic cups. Looking forward to (hopefully) taking them seriously. As I said on another thread, I’m at a loss with Europe now.
What's the point in qualifying for tournaments we have no intention of winning and instead it just hinders our weekend performances. We need to start over
Perhaps the greatest thing Levy can do for the new manager is bite a huge bullet and come to an agreement with Harry that he can leave next year for free. However tempting it may be to sell him this summer (I think £80m is the minimum as it happens), whatever bids we receive will pale into insignificance stacked up against A) how much his presence will help the new manager rebuild and B) how a bloody hard rebuild will become nigh impossible if he leaves. You cannot put a price tag on what he contributes and it will be typical hubris for Levy to think we'll be able to replace him with £80m in the bank and from a position of absolute weakness where teams have us over a barrel. Far more sensible would be to let him see out his contract, hope that the new manager makes significant progress next season. We should also 100% sign a few attacking prospects this summer with an eye on him not being around much longer. Then we he does leave, move to replace him from a position of relative strength and with the faint possibility of European revenue easing the financial hit.
He doesn't need to come to an agreement. Harry can leave for free next season in any case. However if we keep him it is down to us whether we match any offer he gets elsewhere. Generally I am a seller of players rather than a buyer but Harry is exceptional.
I think we need to deal with this smart...can't see it happening Many clubs lose great players I don't think we should be looking for a 'replacement' because we can't get Mbappe or Haaland. We should though be going for someone a tier below to bring us back some of the goals. If we think we are getting or hoping for a replacement then we are setting ourselves up for huge disappointment. I don't have faith in our leader so let's see how this pans out
In our case our replacement would need to be two players: one for the goals, and one for the assists Realistically, when it comes to the goals we should likely look to have a couple of forwards who can be expected to score 15+ goals a season to spread it out, and if one hits the ground running then we may have a 20 goal forward with a 15 goal forward
That's the solution for the goals Then we need to sign a top quality midfielder with an eye for a pass That will be a tricky one for us
Ultimately it depends on which system that NEW MANAGER goes for If we play 4231, somebody like Pedro Golcalves could bridge the gap both in terms of creativity but also chip in with some goals If we play 433, we would need to sign a brick wall DM to let Bentancur and Bissouma run midfield - and possibly a Gundogan-like CM to manage the transition from defence to attack, which we may need anyway if Bentancur is out until a couple of months into next season
Like kane ? Harry is 3 positions for us , striker , Attacking midfield and a decent defender in the box add to the fact that he should have been made skipper when Hugo made his D&D mistake , take all of this into account and £ 80 million won't scratch the surface of replacing him
That bids will come in is inevitable. There are four possible variables: 1) He signs a new contract and commits the rest of his peak years to spurs (insane thing to do imo). We don't sell him. 2) He refuses to sign, but agrees to honour the remainder of his contract and see out next season. Levy sells him anyway. 3) As above, but Levy resists the temptation to sell. 4) As above, but Kane puts in a transfer request and forces through a move. There is a very strong chance he won't sign a new contract (in a way I'd prefer it if he doesn't as it might be the wake-up call the board needs to pull their finger out and stop relying on him to cover their arses). My worry is that #2 will be too great for Levy to resist and we will sell for a figure that won't just fail to adequately replace him, it will also leave the new manager at a massive disadvantage. In fact, I don't think that disadvantage can be overstated. Either way, we won't be able to properly replace him. As others have said, we can't afford the likes of Mbappe or Haaland and no one else comes close to his quality. Certainly no one else who will move to a club that just finished 8th. So we might as well give the new manager and team the best first step we can muster, and in no universe does that work without Kane. We need a new GK, two news CBs, a new AM and have half a dozen young players to start integrating, all with an entirely new coaching staff. Adding replacing Kane to that 'to do list' is madness.
