Winks ain't as bad as he is made out to be but clearly does not offer protection to the back four and is not pushing us forward so tbh I can not see why he is starting games. Dier is simply not the player he once was...and Sanchez has stalled big time.
Do the arms impede the path of the ball from : 1. reaching an attacking player 2. being a shot on target that the GK could (not) make an attempt to save If either apply, then IMHO the laws should declare handball.
He really is mate. Absolutely terrible player, can’t pass, can’t defend, can’t dribble, can’t shoot... He brings absolutely nothing to this football club other than being an academy boy.
Yeah I think long term it’s GLC, Højbjerg and NDombele. Can see why Jose did what he did today though given fitness. Højbjerg sat more in front of the back 4 in the second half and he seemed more effective doing that than charging around with Winks sitting. I agree that Dier is concerning now. He showed positive signs after the restart last season and it’s clear Jose likes him but he’s just not performing quite well enough.
Mou needs players to listen to him and to be capable of doing what is required. Playing to Mou's tactics isn't easy, because it requires the entire team to defend as one and to attack as one, and with the ability to transition seamlessly back and forth between the two as one. That requires extreme fitness, discipline and communication. It's a tough system to play and it takes time to build a squad capable of working that way, but we are seeing glimpses of it. You can tell that Mou is slowly bringing in the players he wants and needs to make the system work. I'm all for giving him the time necessary, whilst understanding that there are going to be some frustrations along the way.
Peter Waltons analysis is generally pointless he just agrees with whatever decisions the refs have given - However much as you don't to hear this he is right the laws are highly unlikely to be changed mid-season so we will have to get used to it. It's a shame that we have won 5-2 and the penalty has taken the shine off that and something beyond the control of players and refs is taking centre stage.
I'm wondering if he sticks with those players because they both have the discipline to do what Mou tells them to do? Also, he might like Dier because I can see him being the kind of player who will kick arses in the dressing room and on the training ground, which Mou seems to like.
https://www.not606.com/threads/all-or-nothing-the-spoiler-thread.386087/page-2#post-14081697 Dier and Winks are currently demonstrating none of those traits, so I assume Jose has been hoping they can front up for the greater good during the september fixture maelstrom. By the time of the Man Utd game, unless they improve than I expect neither to be in PL starting XIs other than due to squad injuries.
Right, I'm off to the Prem board's match day thread. Someone is bound to have wummed prematurely during that first half. I intend to exploit that to the hilt.
