Yes, It might make me feel a little less nervous. My stream was so far behind every time a notification came up I assumed the worst.
Yeah but then it begs the question as to what they’ve been asked to do because unless it’s “play terrible”, they’re not doing anything right. The first arse Dier needs to kick is his own too. Being a fighter is all well and good but you need to be performing, and those two in particularly haven’t been performing for ages yet seem to make the XI far too often.
A new CB now looks even more important I really currently have very little faith in any of them - was pleased that Sanchez started, he is probably the most reliable as a defender but is such a liability with the ball at his feet.
I wonder how many of us remember watching Spurs get 10 v Everton, withj an injured center half too,who actually scored!!!? Or the thirteen v dear old Crewe?
@Alfie Conn Yes, that's why we bought him. I think it's an adjustment for him as Southampton press a lot more and push higher than we do, so he needs to learn to be a bit more disciplined in his positioning and come flying out of the traps more situationally. Everyone who has ever coached him says he is a very intelligent footballer so I'm sure he can learn, but these things do take time.
They had the **** knocked out of them with the injury time goal at the end of the first half.. They continued to play a high line but did not press. Kane dropped a bit deeper and did an imitation of Kevin de Bruyne on amphetamines. Absolute class.
Newcastle losing 3-0 at home to Brighton. Whoever is playing them next will be pretty confident of a walkover
Jose plays him because he’s a yes man, Jose likes using yes men a lot, the problem though is most of those have been the guy to do the under appreciated work, Winks is just ****. Guy’s basically won the lottery playing for this football club. And there’s a good few others here at the moment too in the same boat. He’ll be out the team sooner or later though with a bit of luck once the superior players are fit. He’s trending on twitter and it ain’t for the right reasons. Rival fans have been laughing at us for years for playing him - just like we all did with people like Guendouzi - a good portion of Spurs fans are starting to understand why now though and more will follow with performances like he’s putting in.
Ndombele went off at half-time and Lo Celso came on. Winks and Hojbjerg dropped deeper and shielded the defence a lot better. Southampton's defensive line pushed even higher and we broke in behind repeatedly. Kane to Son, goal. Repeat. Lamela did well when he came on, too.
I have a lot of criticism of Jose but the idea that he would play winks cos he is a yes man is far fetched. I think Winks is not delivering the performances we need him to but gets chosen because we have no one to play the role he does. Jose has his system and plays Winks because he thinks he best suits it. As for fans defending him, I did so because I was sick of the stick he took while others such a Rose, Dier, Toby and Trippier all got free passes on appalling performances back in 2018/19 and 2019/20 and I suspect I was not alone in being ****ed off at the double standard...for example, Rose had his name sang even though he put in absolutely disgraceful performances for two years.
He’s never really delivered though. It’s not just now, it’s been like this for ages. Free passes? Come on man, Trippier and Dier got dogs abuse whilst a few of us had criticised Toby too, I was personally pissed we gave Toby a new deal last season. Let’s not act like Winks was being singled out over others though, I was probably the only person calling for Winks’ head during that same period, it’s why it’s often joked that whenever he does do something right I get tagged into it. It’s just that now there’s a few more who aren’t too keen on him either. Rose has definitely been disgraceful for two years but this is now Winks’ fifth season and when’s he actually been good? At least with Rose he put in three brilliant seasons between 2014-2017. I can’t look back at any of Winks’ seasons and think “Yeah he was great that year”. Genuinely starting to think he’s some sort of hacker and has info on/ nudes of Poch/ Jose/ Southgate.
