A signing - for next season. Another tall striker. Sounds good... But will he make it? https://www.watfordfc.com/news/official-doumbia-to-join-hornets
He is tall and good in the air, but also fast and skilful on the ground. He made an impact at the 2023 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2023 Under-17 World Cup (scoring four goals in each tournament). One of his Mali teammates (at the Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia) described him as the African Haaland. Looks an exciting prospect. The Watford website was incorrect. It stated that "Mali once again finished fourth" in the 2023 Under-17 World Cup (as they did in the 2023 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations), but the Mali U-17 team defeated the Argentina U-17 team 3-0 in the tournament and finished in third place. The website has just been corrected.
Going by the photo in that link, he may well spend next season beefing up. Championship (or League 1) defenders will eat him for breakfast.
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ican-striker-signs-six-year-contract-watford/ It has been pointed out that if Mamadou Doumbia is brought to Watford as an ESC player (in order to obtain a work permit), then it may be necessary for him to make appearances for Watford next season in order to convert him into a non-ESC player. The fact that he will be joining Watford rather than Udinese on 1st July suggests that Gino Pozzo has no immediate plans to sell the club (despite the cost cutting and lack of investment). I wish that the owner would also try to sign promising young defensive players (full backs, central defenders and defensive midfielders) and to increase the English contingent in the squad rather than focusing almost entirely on signing exciting young foreign forwards (admittedly with great potential). Gino Pozzo appears to be more interested in player trading than in team building.
Apparently keen on signing 16 year old Adrián Arnuncio from Real Valladolid. So are Brighton, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Benfica and Barcelona.- so I guess that's that then... https://sportwitness.co.uk/brighton...ing-scouts-duo-can-offer-customised-projects/

New goalkeeper coming in? At £8.6 million, and with Sevilla interested too, I can't see it happening. https://therealefl.co.uk/2024/04/25/watford-battling-with-european-champions-for-8-6-million-gem/
If we want a new goalkeeper we should go for the Wellington Phoenix youngster, Alex Paulsen. He is only 21 but is very good, and will improve.
Have obviously never seen him play, but we have a 20 year-old keeper in the U21s who is apparently highly thought of - Alfie Marriott. He was involved with first team matchday squads last season a few times, but I can't remember seeing his name mentioned this season - probably because we've been well served with Bachmann and Hamer. He has a couple of years left on his contract, so maybe he'll step up next season?
