I'd probably say selling Trippier was the bigger mistake though, I was a fan of his but did get a bit down on him in that final season before realising he played through injury for most of it. Getting just £20m+ for him was a little criminal in hindsight, probably worth double that. We at least got a record fee for Walker at the time and the player himself wanted out, Tripps would've preferred to stay but said he knew he was getting shipped out/ wasn't in Poch or Levy's plans, Toon fans are loving him right now, been excellent for them.

Wouldn’t surprise me, there was definitely a toxic feel for a period of about 18 months, roughly between the end of Poch’s reign and most of Jose’s. I remember under Jose, Lloris even said after that embarrassing loss to Zagreb along the lines of that some players weren’t pulling their weight, Tripps had been long gone by then but makes you wonder what the dressing room was like for a while. It’s a further testament to Kane and Son for how they had to carry it for so long. Club should offer both a blank cheque for whenever they ask, bailed us out of the **** and some.

Do they have a buyback clause? Funny how with all the multitudes of players Chelsea have kept on loans then dumped, they didn't seem to have buyback clauses for De Bruyne, Salah et al. Or did they fail to exercise them?

 

Ally Gold says Nile John's got interest from a few clubs home and abroad. Deal ends in the summer, not someone I overly expected to become a first teamer but someone who I think can carve out a career high up in the Championship or possibly even low Prem, so bit of a ****ter that we'll (likely) lose him for nothing now, when in a couple years he could be worth around £10m+. Like many others in the academy, we haven't helped him much with his development, sent him to Charlton last Jan and he never played, should've sent him out in the summer, along with a bunch of others. Gotta start improving our decisions with the academy, too many wasting away here, they don't have to be Harry Kane's to be a success, said it before but in the last few years we've probably missed out on around £60m+ worth of talent that we could've either pocketed or utilised in the first team.

The thing that really stands out about Porro is he's a case of less a club signing but a franchise signing: first he was parked at Girona for a couple of seasons (the first one of those he was loaned out), then moved onto The Sheikh Mansour Team - but never played a minute for them, as he was loaned out for three seasons in a row

Or to put it bluntly, he was in the Mansourite system for five seasons, and spent four of those on loan. But if anyone else wants to sign him...

One way to look at it is he’s not Emerson or Doherty, which is almost certainly a positive.

Agree but it would be curtains for Spence probably if they signed another young player in that position and that’s a shame
