As the final is Boca vs River Plate, the most important question is... please log in to view this image
Brace yourselves, The Stattening has begun... ...somebody should tell Twitter to stop autocorrecting his name to "Wilmar Neighbourhoods"
Ajax Raid Watch Marc Overmars, the club's Sporting Director, has said the following regarding Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong They have such a high level that we cannot keep them. However it’s important for us to reinvest the money and replace the players who leave at the end of the season as best as possible. ...so while that may rule out a January signing, that's no reason not to go for the early landgrab
Reports are saying that Jackson Conway, a 16 year-old striker from Atlanta United's academy, has been training with us Here's a few clips of him playing for their youth and reserve sides
If we are looking at home grown young talent, then Briooks (or Fraser) at Bournemouth or the lad Gibbs-White at Wolves should be high on that list. The latter looks like a serious talent and will attract attention from the highest levels, so may not be a viable target.
We were after Brooks before Bournemouth signed him in the summer. Fraser's been impressive for Bournemouth but I'm not sure he's the level we need, there's no way he'd get in over any of the current AMs, he'd essentially be our Scottish Nkoudou. Not seen Gibbs-White play other than his cameo yesterday which looked impressive. As for home grown talent, I think I've banged the drum a bit too much that the drum has now broken with regards to Ollie Watkins. Scored again yesterday, making it 5 goals and 3 assists in 14 games and is a perfect Poch player in that he can play in any of the three AM roles AND as a striker. Then there's always this lad, who brings the ball out from the back and drives it forward, was once the country's best talent before a spell of personal issues set him back (though have now been resolved), name sounds like Back Brealish I think
Didn’t know about our interest in Brooks...... looks like we missed out there. Fraser I would agree is arguably a level below, reminds me of Holtby for some reason, but has been consistent at PL level for over a year now and has combative qualities. Watched G-W play for England boys and he looked very impressive. Yesterday just suggested he could transition well to another level. But don’t, please DON’T mention the G word ever again
Quite like the look of fraser. His passing might not always be on point but the big difference between him and holtby is that frasers a much better dribbler and has that burst and pace which is always a danger to any defender. Holtby never had that in his locker and imo was more a very poor mans erikssen
Wouldn’t argue with that. Mind you, the list of ‘poor mans Eriksen’ is feckin’ long..... that’s setting the bar pretty high.
The guy who sounds like Back Brealish would probably be one of our best players this season based on the form of others, just sayin' like...
Holtby was just a poor man. Calling him a poor man's Eriksen would in someway be a compliment to a player that was useless for us.
Deffo. It was more about his style in terms of small, tidy on the ball and fairly lightweight . one of those players who will occasionally shine but is a mid table player. Similar to mason and osman of yesteryears
Andre gomes is looking good in his few appearances for everton. Hes definitely doing better than i thought he was. As an attacking force i dont rate him (killer passes and shooting) but as someone who controls the midfield, has some energy and can keep the ball and spread it, im quite liking the look of him. Torreira is also another new signing whos looking the business. For a small guy puts himself about but the most impressive thing js he can play a pass, doesnt panic and plays on the half turn
In a season where Moussa Sissoko's one of our best 3 players, Back Bacon would be getting games! Interesting view from Norman Giller today, he says the club are lining up "2 major transfer deals"... http://www.spursodyssey.com/1819/giller_250.html He's got more contacts in the club than I've had hot dinners, so let's hope he's right. I still believe that we had money and wanted to spend it this summer but ****ed up who we went after, given that we don't have an inexhaustible budget to buy players that clubs aren't planning to sell. We shall see......let's hope that the deals are ready to go Jan 1st and we're not going still to be negotiating a month later.
Wonder what he'd construe as a major transfer? Players like SMS/ N'Dombele or Barrios/ Grealish? EIther way, any of those would be welcomed additions in my eyes.
We're down below Harry's "bare bones" right about now. Save the unbelievable strike against Liverpool last season, I've not seen Big Vic produce a performance worthy of him as a player since his injury. He occupies a shirt but adds nothing. It's a terrible shame but he's not adding anything and I'd pick Skippy ahead of him, no matter who the opposition. To my mind, Mousa Dembele's done as a first team option other than off the subs bench. He's better than Vic but that's setting the bar very low. That leaves us with Moussa II, who we shouldn't be starting against any decent team, Eric Dier, who has finally succumbed to injury and Winksy and Skippy. Beggars can't be choosers and we need to get in the best options that we can afford, not moon about looking at players that aren't for sale or that we can't afford, even if they were. Also, pretending that Vic and Dembele are First Team Options and have to be moved on at high value to enable us to buy is misguided. They're done and whether we can sell them or not, we need fresh blood.
