Morning, all. Hope everyone well. I would have very confidently tipped Anjaz to win up at Ripon but as that one is now a non-runner am unable, and I do mean unable, to do so. However, with somewhat less buoyancy I will recommend to the regular readers: Van Percy (3.25 Epsom Downs) – what an abominable name for a racehorse by the way. The very mention of its name makes me lament and weep uncontrollably. Still that ain’t the poor old beasts fault and I think he will oblige this afternoon. He was beaten a massive dozen lengths on debut but that is much better form than on first inspection as that was behind subsequent Group winner Dundonnell (who I rate extremely highly incidentally) and Van Percy beat the other 12 runners in the heat. Unfancied and green on that occasion this one did all his best work at the end of the race and will certainly benefit enormously both for the run and the extra furlong he encounters today. Van Percy looks to have a decent chance this afternoon and current quotes could lead to us robbing those bookie chappies. King Kurt (5.10 Sedgefield) – Kevin Ryan is much better known, of course, for his Flat raiders but this one looks more than interesting on debut in the old NH sphere. A dual winner on the level and rated, at one point, as high as 83 he looks quite a classy recruit to timber. This doesn’t look the strongest hurdle race ever contested and if King Kurt can convert his form from the flat expect him to oblige ‘ooooooop North’. Good luck, people.
A couple for me now that i like... Both at Ripon... 4.15 - Lady Chaparral, 13/2... NAP Won lto at Carlisle over a similar mark, only raised 2lb here, and will have the same conditions again to suit... 4.45 - Rex Romanorum, 9/2... Won lto over the 1m at Pontefract on soft ground, which they will have again today, and if he carries any form from that to here will have a chance... Singles and a double...
Epsom 2:50 - Baby Strange (NAP) form against most of the others in the race, much better in the weights today even before the 7lb claim. Got very excited when I found this one, missed the price though, now 5s from 9s. Has it been tipped up somewhere that its shortening so fast? Others at Epsom: 3:55 - Keyaadi 5/1 4:30 - Mount Abora 11/2 5:00 - If I Were a Boy 100/30 (NB) Looks very good turned out quickly to avoid the penalty.
