The ball had gone out of play, it would have been either a goalkick or a corner. The flow of the game isn't changed, the game had stopped anyway because the ref blew up. I think folk are either for or against this use of technology and minds will never be changed!
You're right it was, about 3:50 on this crappy video. Even so all the players had stopped because of the whistle. Play can restart with a dropped ball wherever the ball ended up, just like they do when play is stopped for injury.
But the game's already been changed, correctly or incorrectly, because the ref's blown up and the players have stopped. 1. Without video tech. Ref calls penalty, play stops. Pen gets taken. Play restarts with kick-off. 2. With video tech. Ref calls penalty, play stops. Video tech says correct decision. Pen gets taken. Play restarts with kick-off. 3. With video tech. Ref calls penalty, play stops. Video tech says incorrect decision. Play restarts somewhere else. What's the difference except that a penalty is either correctly awarded or correctly denied?
It's too inconsistent, takes too much time, is not inclusive & will spoil the the football experience for the supporter.
It's one of those arguments no-one wins, in the absence of a mutually local pub where we could at least get pissed while failing to agree I think we'll have to agree to disagree.
Didn't know you were on a phone, I posted this... It's one of those arguments no-one wins, in the absence of a mutually local pub where we could at least get pissed while failing to agree I think we'll have to agree to disagree.
