The draw is at 11:00AM UK time today (Dec 16) . From a progression viewpoint, we would prefer to draw Leipzig or Valencia ??
CL last 16 : Atletico vs Liverpool Chelsky vs Munich Real vs Citeh Spurs vs Leipzig Atalanta vs Valencia Dortmund vs PSG Lyon vs Juventus Napoli vs Barcelona
Happy with that! Always said I like seeing us face different opponents so this will be another I get to cross off the list.
EL last 32 (selected) : Wolves vs Espanyol. Olympiakos vs Goons. Bruges vs Man Utd. Leverkusen v Porto. Shakhtar Donetsk vs Benfica.
Leipzig mirror Spurs of 2017 , a young hungry manager with a young inexperienced squad , a good draw for once but we cannot take it for granted , home for the 1st leg the lane will be rocking that night
Last year Dortmund had just been pulled out of the hat and they were sat on top of the Bundesliga too Good draw for us COYS
Nagelsmann could easily be a future Spurs manager, visiting the stadium will definitely give him a taste of what could be in a few years
As with last season, too far away to worry about them now. A lot of PL, then FA Cup, ground for the squad to plough before then.
Good draw and I'm delighted Atalanta have been given the strongest possible chance to progress. I read that this season all 16 teams are from the 'big 5' leagues for the first time in the competition's history, so it's nice that at least one of the stand-out underdogs will be in the QF, where they will be easily brushed aside by us as we march on to the semis. Pool fans spent most of the week saying they wouldn't mind playing the likes of Juve, PSG, Real and Barca and it is obvious why. Atletico are probably the only team in the draw who have the defensive nous to stop Pool's attack whilst still having enough in the locker to hurt them at the other end.
There's no such thing as a good draw in the CL. The danger with drawing Leipzig is that the players could be complacent thinking it's a foregone conclusion. Leipzig are a good team currently and will prove to be a stern test. Can Spurs approach this game with the right mentality? I trust Jose will impress this upon the team but sometimes the "lesser" teams can be more difficult to beat than the more well-known teams.
I don't know, drawing Shakhtar Donetsk in the group stage three times in a row sounds like a good draw to me...
Wanyama has - unsurprisingly - been left out of our revised CL squad. I say 'unsurprisingly', but Tanguy's fitness problems and Sissoko being out until appx the Semi-final stage does add perhaps a sprinkling of surprise. As if it needed reiterating, I don't think we'll see him kick a ball again for Spurs.
Two things spring to mind 1.) The MLS window opens next Wednesday 2.) The Chinese window is open until the 27th I do hope somebody at the club is explaining this to him...
Given that we've included Vorm, who basically didn't need to be included, I think that Wanyama's done. Did anyone really doubt it? He must be truly knackered, unfortunately. Mourinho even spoke positively about his professionalism.
