If it becomes a competition between United and City in both cases then City would 'win' Kane as they offer the trophies, whereas anyone going for Haaland this summer has to be mad given he's available for 'only' £65 million next summer.

Which is where United come into play, straight shoot out on who can offer the maddest wages and agent fees. At least Woodward will have left by then I suppose!

Truth is, this will come down to where Kane wants to go. With Cavani signing, we can wait a year and maybe go for Haaland.

If Kane has a desire to pay for United, we would be stupid to not explore that option.

    Absolutely not the case.

A small matter of £200 million difference. Which is 25% more.

man's an absolute genius though, obvs.

If there is one player that would turn us into true contenders, then I would say that Kane would is that player over Haaland. His experience in the league cannot be bought with just money. On that alone, he would be worth the fee that Levy would seek. Kane would also be stress-free and not try to use us as a stepping stone to another club. That’s why I wouldn’t trust Haaland.

Mbape would be lovely too because he has a year left in his contract but he clearly wants ala Madrid. I would have him over Kane and Haaland any day.

I have two reservations about signing Kane, the first is that he seems very injury prone and I wonder if that is why we have kept Cavani, the second is that he does seem to prefer the left side and that would force Rashford to play out of position, but if we have to take him I won't complain.

We should still get decent money for de Gea and Martial and with a clear out of the Jones & co variety we might even cover his transfer.

Not sure we should selling de Gea.

We should be selling Henderson. People might buy the potential of him (even though he's ****e) whereas they would baulk at the transfer fee and high wages of De Gea.

De Gea should be at his absolute prime, he just needs to be properly coached.

If we keep Henderson and sell De Gea it will be a gargantuan mistake.

Maybe the best option is get rid of both and get a completely new keeper in?

I think the departure of the portuguese coach 18 months ago had a direct effect on De Gea. It is all about the coaching imo.

But then I feel like that about the whole defence. Right up to the midfield's role in that. Coaching has been poor.

I think Henderson will probably shine at a club where the same pressure isn't there like he did last season. And fair play if that's the case, I hope he does. But he's not good enough for United unfortunately. I think he knows his time is up as well, especially as rumours were that he was saying he wanted to be No. 1 next season or he'd be off. He's painted himself into a bit of a corner there.

    We'll need a decent No. 2 though.

    Interesting Gossip column today!

I like the idea of Ings. I think we should target him, say he's our No.1 priority, and then we've him and Cavani as centre forwards.

Pursuing Kane just pushes up the price and would make Ings realise he was second choice.

Just leave Kane go to City, he wants to go there and that's fine.
Can't see City going for Kane and Ings, and I can't see either player going to anyone but us or City ,so it's one or the other.

We should also beat Chelsea to Sancho.

I would take Cavani and Ings as our strike force next season but I would like to think that translates to us getting Haaland next year - both of these are stop-gap solutions at best.

I wouldn't say Ings is stop gap, but Haaland would be the natural succession to Cavani, yes.

Haaland still young so Ings would still be very useful, he's only 28 now so absolutely peak.

In an ideal world of course!

I would be happy with Ings but only if we get a top quality right winger.

If we do get Ings then also gives us a couple of seasons to see how Greenwood develops as a cf.

Our manager shall get a three year contract this summer along with more money thrown at the team to guarantee success. By the time we get all our targets, the manager won’t even have to attend trainings with the players.

Those City players need a decent coach don't you think. ..........................not the players obvs, because every **** up on the field is down to the crap coach, nothing to do with the players having off days. Sack Pep I say.

Or perhaps we should have done exactly what Roman did as he didn’t sit there with wishful thinking that fat Lampard would come through.

Took the new guy six months to create magic with a talented team.

But yes, we need three more players to be close to City. Endless stupid logic year in, year out!

Looking at Kante's performance last night in the CL final, I'm more adamant now than ever before we need a decent defensive midfielder.

Along with a quality CB and a RW.

Very few things for me to add.

Gutted and disgusted by the awful performance on Wednesday. So bad that my flu got much worse :( (not got C19 thank goodness) .

    1. Fernandes and many others chose that match to have their worst performance. Was the fact that CL qualification wasn’t hanging on it had anything to do with it? No ****ing excuses really.

    2. Ole waited until extra time to make his subs when the players were visibly tiring in the second half. Why? Quality of the subs not good enough?

    3. he brought Telles and Mata for the shoot out but the most important he didn’t do. Henderson for DG. We all know that DG hadn’t saved a pen for many years. Henderson would have given us a better chance. Was he worried about DG’s feelings? Did he think that the Europa was not the same as a World Cup semi or final and therefore not important enough to humiliate a loyal servant of the club?

    4. He’ll stay for another season at least. The GGs won’t sack him because he cost less than others and importantly he’s satisfied their main key objective: CL qualification. Winning trophies including the title is not one of them. Maybe Ole let the cat out of the bag when he said “trophies are for egos”. The GGs might reconsider if the fans clamour for a change. But no chance of this happening soon. So why not support him?

    5. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Yes I know some said they are not interested in what other managers are doing.( but a potential replacement will need to be identified and appointed though!) Pochetino (many of us were drooling over) recruited by PSG after sacking Tuchel couldn’t even win that tough French league while Tuchel....Pep admittedly a great manager which I feel we should have busted a gut to recruit hasn’t even satisfied the main objective he was recruited for. That is winning the champions league by tinkering and overthinking. Zidane and Koeman didn’t even approach achieving their key objectives. Klopp ****ed up his midfield trying to be clever until late in the day he did the simple and obvious thing.

    6. fingers crossed. We get some top new recruits to shake things up. A CB, a right sided wing and a top striker. At the end of the day it is all about the quality of the players in the squad. Unless we have a decent cover for each position we’ll get nowhere. A good manager can only do so much.

    Glad you're well mate.

I think that's harsh on Fernandes. I seriously doubt playing for CL qualification is more important to him than winning a European trophy. That's clear from everything he's ever said and the state he was in at the end of the match. Probably our most devastated player.

I think the reason some of our players under-performed was down to Unai/ Villareal setting up by compacting the space between the lines so Bruno was choked for space and we simply didn't have any clue as to how to break them down. It's not the first time either, the home game against Sheff Utd springs to mind.

Him not changing De Gea is about as clear a signal that he was going to be our No. 1 next season. The irony being that after the pens it seriously scuppered that. However now a few days have passed, with a pragmatic head on, I don't see why De Gea can't remain our No. 1. It was pens, not something we're going to be facing week in week out. Other than that he's still good. Plus the fact we've got 3/4 other positions that need priority.

What's really concerning btw is who we are going to sign.

I say that because there are so many clubs looking to buy. Chelsea need a striker. City too. In fact City will be buying all over the shop now they've lost the CL. Then there's Bayern, Real Madrid and Barca - the last two who need serious rebuilds and even though they're skint guaranteed they'll find some clever accounting to find the money.

I think we're all going to be competing for the same 6-8 players.
