Fair enough, but by the FA's own definition, a dive can still be a foul.

    Doesn't sit right with me.

I think the whole section is a mess. Careless is a weird word in this context. It perversely suggests that a deliberate push isn’t a foul unless it is reckless or using excessive force.
What is an attempted kick that involves contact?
But clearly contact in itself isn’t a foul,
What foul do you think was committed on Willian? Was he tripped or tackled carelessly? He kicked the defenders leg, why isn’t that a foul?
That there is a grey area is obvious. While I agree with you that Willian had to take evasive action to avoid the tackle, I think he should have tried: If he failed and lost balance I think it should have been a penalty.

Since simulation is defined as pretending to be fouled it seems impossible to be fouled and simulate.

    Exactly.
But Willian was not brought down, he started to go down before contact was made, left a leg trailing to ensure contact then completed the dive.

The trouble is that if he had tried to avoid the contact and succeeded but lost his balance he should then really have got a penalty and everyone would then say it wasn’t a foul because there was no contact.

It’s a slightly silly thought experiment but if the Norwich player had been lying on the ground and Willian pushed the ball past him and then went over, everyone would agree it was a dive. So there must be some judgement of who initiated the contact. Pundits always assume that the defender is at fault even in 50-50 challenges.

You think offsides are black and white, you may as well say handball is black and white.

My view is people should just man the **** up and accept people will make human error.

how is an offside decision (not the is he interfering in play), seeing when the ball is passed and where the final striker is not a black and white decision? Theres no subjectiveness there

You've answered it yourself, when the interfering with play aspect comes into it.

if you want to be a pendant then offside decisions for if the striker is past the last man should be the only time VAR is used :p

No problems with VAR and it's bringing up interesting talking points due to its teething issues but in the long term it is a good thing.

People need to stop treating referees like robots and expecting them to not be influenced by little things like for example, Chelsea players diving therefore the referee remembered that and refused to risk looking the mug, I don't blame him.

Refs need help from their blatant errors and VAR can do that in the long run.

It takes less time to check a decision than it does when players and managers waste time. Subs crawling off, rolling about after a knock, protesting a decision hence holding up play etc.

I think fans need to man up and support this. It's the nature of the beast that we rejoice when VAR works for us and grunt when it goes against us, that's tough ****e for everyone.

    Refbot anyone?

Instead of yellow cards it could shoot yellow paintballs at offending players face

It could taze anyone confronting it about decisions

Robots are the future I'm telling ya

I second this forward thinking idea!

A refbot would be ideal! Shout at it, the player gets a ‘reminder jolt’. Carry on and you get the full zap!

We could expand it to allow it to liquidise managers like Maureen and Whinger when they go off on one.

Teach the rest of the ****ers to keep quiet and respect the ref
