I wonder if it has something to do with Aston Villa's high prices for our match at Villa Park on a Monday night. We have decent deals for away fans e.g. Arsenal where they reciprocate.
Nick Hornby looked at this issue years ago - post Taylor when the introduction of all seater stadia led to a hike in prices. Whatever we may think, SFC is not a social service, it's a business. Ticket prices for anything will always be set on a supply and demand basis. Villa may not be much of a draw, but our last home game of the season was likely to be a sell out regardless of the opposition. Is it fair on Saints and Villa fans who may feel priced out? Maybe not, but then it may be equally unfair that I can't have an Aston Martin. To the barricades, comrades. Free football and Aston Martins for all.
Villa ever present in the premier league could be in the bottom 3 when they play us, . They have still got man u. Spurs, man city, Everton and west ham before they play us. They then have a final day showdown with Burnley. I don't mind what I pay to inflict pain on villa.
A ticket to see Saints is about the same as a ticket to the theatre and I bet no actor gets paid the same as a PL player. If you want to pay less, watch a lower league club....they could do with support. It would be nice if Saints gave freebies to supporters, but this is the price we pay for supporting a PL club. And I think we are getting value for money this season.
What a ridiculous complaint. I run a business and I charge exactly how much I thin k the customer will pay. It would be madness to do otherwise. The game will be in huge demand, so to whose benefit would it be? It certainly wouldn't be of benefit to the fans. Let's say they made it (to keep the principle simple) a quid to get in. Result, full house, tens of thousands of people turning up because it's well below the price they are willing to pay and many thousands left unhappy because they can't get a seat. People who have been to loads of games lose out to people prepared to come along because it's cheap. Additionally, Saints lose cash. Alternatively, if they got the pricing on the nail, every seat would be full and no-one who was prepared to pay the price they were asking would have been turned away. Anyone who didn't go would have no grounds for complaint at all, i.e. logically should be happy, as they can't have valued the football more than they valued the money in their pocket. Everyone wins. Get the pricing too high and there are empty seats, so the club loses out as do some people who would have gone at the optimal, lower price. The undercurrent of socialist thinking on this site is bewildering. A staggering number of you seem to think that the free market is a bad thing, when in fact it tends to maximise how many people get what they want for a price they are happy to pay. I suggest you read "The Undercover Economist", write out a hundred times "Pricing that leaves unmet demand or supply is no good to buyers or sellers" then come back on here. Vin
May I also suggest that if you are outraged by the price you punish the club by refusing to buy beer. That will teach them
Well as a socialist I actually agree with you Vin. Football isn't a basic human requirement like food or fuel, it's a luxury. And that game would be sold out if they charged £60 a ticket, so Cat A is not unreasonable.
Vin, that's an excellent post, but unfortunately in today's society too many people want everything for nothing. You'll never convince them they are not entitled to that either.
Exactly what I was thinking, or any other club merchandise. Boycotting the final game after the season we've had. What a tool!!
Exactly my point, comrade. Just stated more succinctly. I will fight to my dying breath for a more equal society, but any boycott of a footie match is not high on my list of suitable strategies!
As a socialist cum democrat I also agree with Vin. I run my own business too and you charge what the market is willing to pay, not give away your service and lose out yourself. Everybody has bills to pay.
We haven't exactly been struggling to sell tickets this season tbh so don't see why Saints would be willing to drop their income without reason. Most spare places come from the more poorly supported away teams We all want to see Saints buying better players and our money through the turnstiles makes an important contribution
In my previous existence, I remember this quote from a NALGO Union rep when offered a 6% pay rise, "What's 6% of nothing? We want 12%". Not entirely relevant to this thread but it still makes me laugh
Nothing to do with what Villa charged because that is down to the fact they moved away fans into a higher priced area. This is a straight out fleecing fans because its the last home match.
Striper, you have made four posts in this forum, of which three of them are about the club ripping off fans with ticket prices for the villa game. Anything else to say about our club? We having a good season? You enjoying the ride?
Never heard of the theory of supply and demand? True supporters will find the money if they can, just go without a few beers and fags perhaps?
