I have used NORD VPN for a few years. Reasonable price and plenty of options for connections. Which country is best depends on what you want to watch as some things are region dependent.

    Yeah heard of Nord.

Question for a friend of course, but I assume they want to just hide ISP for streaming stuff like football

A friend tried Nord and found it blocked access to some of the streaming sites he wanted to use...

Give them a try. Reasonable price and you can cancel after 30 days if you don't like it. Thet are at NORD VPN.com
I just use the English one for most streaming. Some sites, ones where you are trying to order online for example, won't let you use them if they sense you are using a VPN even if it shows as being in the UK.

    Porn more likely.

A VPN hides your true IP address from a website. Your ISP will still know which sites you visited. Sorry, I mean your friend's ISP.

    Aahh,, the monthly VPN thread!
    Try deja vu
Failing that, Windscribe has been fine for my mate. Lerds of countries to pick from depending on what you are wanting to access /hide from (apparently).

Surfshark is supposed to be very good. I haven’t used it, but it is one I was looking at.

There's a few freebies out there, what do the others do which these can't?

Nothing is free, you're paying one way or another.

I tried a freebie a while ago, it was ok but the number of free connections was restricted so I'd not be able to connect to it from time to time.

Someone in an associated area once told me, if it's free, you're not the customer, you're the product.

Thef freebies could share your info, keep logs etc...The paid ones tend not to. And, as someone else said, you don't get the number of connections and they can often be slower.
