'If you look long enough' - isn't that what VAR was brought in for? Infringements that the ref had missed? Not to overturn the decisions (the ref hadn't seen it, but decided it wasn't as (incredibly) in the case of the foul on Origi against Uniturd), but to spot fouls the ref hadn't. I can think of several pens that have been given by VAR for players being hauled down at corners that the ref missed. Now, apparently, there needs to be new law written to mentally strike off a VAR decision that goes Liverpool's way - even if it's an undeniable foul ('I suppose it is in rules' P Merson), now we have to decide if it had any bearing on the final outcome: a sort of amalgam of the foul rule with the offside status of interfering with play. Oh, and that's now with the new commentators' rule that the edict that an accidental handball in the build-up to a goal means it should be disallowed should not apply in the case of an attacker handballing in the Liverpool goal area. I wouldn't let these ****wits judge the performances on Eurovision, let alone whether VAR is right or wrong. And where the **** was the outrage when they blatantly re-drew the lines (at cock-eyed angles too?) when Bobby was preposterously adjudged offside at Villa? Focussed on the decision of the Sheff United player disallowed at Spurs who was, er, actually offside (unlike Bobby) albeit only by the length of his big toe.
I think this is all summed up by Trent at RB - do we concede more goals with him there at RB than he creates? probably the latter. But even when Joe was brought on again to shore things up, as he did against City, Trent was nowhere to be seen at the end when Zaha was in the clear from that Townsend chip, and should have scored. Not being hyper-critical (and Zaha is always on his game against us) but we don't get the same insecurities with Robbo on the other flank, imo.
It's a difficulty comparing the two, robertson is better defensively but taa is slightly better going forward, the problem is they just work so bloody well together. It's a strange thing to be talking about, its usual forwards or midfielders that have great partnerships, but even though they play on opposite sides of the pitch they are integral to each other.
Robbo has VVD next to him so his job is a lot easier than Trent’s. He also has Gini and Mane ahead of him. Trent doesn’t have the same luxury but is still actually a solid defender and will only get better. Trent is also light years ahead of Robbo in terms of attacking. Both have similar number of assists but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Trent is our playmaker from deep - the guy is posting KDB-like numbers ... from right back!
To be fair that second chance at the end was from second phase of a corner so the defence weren’t in usual back 4 line up. Now TAA might have been closest man I’m not sure but doesn’t mean just cos was in our right back area it was his man.
Sit down mate.... ...I 100% agree with this analysis. Spot on PS... and I love Robbo too; it's the fiery temper and never give up attitude.
I can see TAA moving further forward and a RB, maybe Gomez, coming in. That would improve the right side of midfield
If he plays on the right side of our midfield, he’d have to replace Hendo, who has much more of a physical presences than TAA and must lead the press. I just don’t see it, I think he’s in the right position right now.
Back five by then. Joe was in a back three CB line-up. If Zaha wasn't Trent's man, **** knows who was supposed to be watching out right flank.
Tbf to Trent, the guy is practically playing right side of midfield already and he pushes quite high. I rather keep him at right back than formally moving into midfield. He has more space to ‘play make’ at right back.
I think he could quite easily take to midfield. However what's wrong with being a quality full back, hardly forgotten men. Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Lizarazu, Zanetti and so on. Problem with Trent is that he has talents for more positions and its seen beneath him to be just a RB
I think he's fine where he is too. I think we have the best-balanced team we've had in many years atm. And I include the oft-criticised midfield. There's little I would change, we just need to add depth to it.
I totally agree I myself am having strange feelings that I don’t quite understand Yes-yes on the thread I maintain a facade of bleak faced oblivion looms However....... Guaranteed we lose next league game now lol
