Utd b Why wouldn't they go half and haf against us too? Or against leicester? In any event they still have to do it and are disrupted in training and preparation so in reality whatever team they play the other sit on the bench as well
My "logic" is because sunday - thursday is a normal gap for their players so just carry on that routine and chuck in the second string against leicester .
Maybe so. Their team today bring Greenwood in which isnt bad but is a strong back 4 so we will know if they rest Maguire on Tuesday.
went off injured another utd player fouled a Villa player who fell into him and lMaguires leg got "bent" . Looked in a quite a bit of pain and stayed on for about 5 seconds before going sod this & sitting down .
I can't wait until we have two semi decent centre backs back in our line up. Phillips has done an ok job but let's be honest, he's simply not good enough and we dont really need to cover Rhys. Sound like a broken record but our best back 4 is so good defensively but it can play higher up the pitch, pass and dribble and helps us to squeeze the space further upfield.
Actually been impressed with Phillips. Now he’s never going to be a top class CB but given he’s almost been the senior CB for half the season despite only really having a year or two experience in Germany second division I think he’s acquitted himself well. He’s no vvd or Gomez and obviously his pace is an issue, but I feel a lot safer when people put crosses in with him in the box. Think he’s made himself a decent Prem career with his performances so far this season. Someone like Burnley, Newcastle, Palace level where isn’t going to be expected to defend high or be playing 50 yard diagonals but can stand deep and head and block things. Fair play to the guy, think biggest compliment can give is, when he’s not played in the last few months we’ve missed him and without him we wouldn’t be close to having a shout of top 4
Oh yeah, big respect to him. And the guy wins pretty much every header! He and Kabak have given us some form of stability. But he will never be good enough for this team - hopefully his stock has risen and we can get £15m in the summer. As you say, he could thrive in a low block defence.
It just goes to show that someone saw value in him where bolton saw none. When he arrived he was quite slight but still tall. Bolton completely ****ed themselves over I think letting him go. He was almost out our door too but just got a 2 year deal so signed it (wouldn't we all) now he can comfortably expect to see a 5 year deal that will make him a millionaire and be secure for life, which is what he deserves having went and worked very hard for it. wherever that offer comes form who knows but I think he should do well.
I don't think we'll sell Phillips in the summer. It's a fine balance between has he earned a good move or has he earned another season with us. We don't want to be in a similar situation next season where we only have Williams in reserve also bearing in mind Matip may leave.
This is why we need to sign 2 new CBs this summer - hopefully Konate and Kabak, plus VVD and Gomez (maybe Matip if we're lucky). We can't be sentimental - Phillips has done a job but let's be honest, we're still defensively dogsh*t. Allison had to make 6 saves yesterday! Thats not all on Phillips of course but we need players who are comfortable with our high line and he simply isn't. This is a great time for us to cash in. If not, he will hardly play next year and we miss out on a decent transfer fee.
I trust Klopp to do the right/best thing. Our whole defence has shown itself to be either injury prone or susceptible to injury in given circumstances. Virgil obviously doesn't fit in either of those categories but his fitness is a huge unknown now. Konate reportedly signed?
True, we have no idea how VVD or Gomez will come back from their injuries. I think Konate is pretty much a done deal (could be completely wrong)! And I hope we do get Kabak as well - I think he has been really good for us.
Robbo hasn’t missed a game in about 3 years. Taa hasn’t had any major injuries I can think of and vvd had 1 massive serious impact injury. Would hardly say our whole defence is injury prone.
You're right but I was thinking more of the CB's, the out and out defence. Although they're part of the back line, I don't count the wingers as defenders because that's their secondary role. Should have made it clearer though
