Totally agree, they've been appalling all tournament. I wonder when the last team got to a semi final without winning a single game in 90 minutes
One young player - most the rest of the team are ****e. Even Ronaldo has been poor. They'll get smashed by France or Germany.
Mz Kempton just saw Ronaldos celebration. "He looks like a right arsehole" Mz Kempton very rarely uses such language.
As a future sports journalist you don't want to go around assuming things like that. Semi-finals on a neutral ground between two national sides bear no relation to the Football League or Premier. UEFA rules for international competitions bear no relation to domestic leagues here or elsewhere. At one time in European club games the home side had to change if there was a clash. The rationale behind that was the home team were more likely to have change strips available. Which is why Man Utd were in red in the famous Geotge Best show in Lisbon but in blue in the home leg.Once saw a farce at Leeds when they played Standard Liege the 1960s. They both walked out in white. Which was strange as Standard's normal colours were red shirts. They were ordered off by the ref and there were furious arguments, Standard's manager claiming the rules stated the home team should change and Revie pointing out that the problem had only occurred because Standard had not turned up in their normal kit but a white one knowing full well white was Leeds home kit. Leeds offered their change kit of blue to Standard but they claimed it didn't fit, a ludicrous claim and refused to change, By now tannoy announcements were asking Leedd fans not to take it out on Standard fans as it wasn't their doing. Eventually Leeds agreed to play in their blue change strip and the game kicked off about 40 minutes late. It was a really good game in the end. Standard went 2 nil up early in the second half and Leeds got the winner with a couple of minutes to go. Probably the loudest I heard a Lerds crowd in the time I worked there though it wasn't as large a crowd as some games. A couple of other things stick in my mind from that game. One was Danny Blanchflower declaring on the TV commentary " Coming onto the field are the Standard Liege team, most of those names are pretty foreign to me". The other was that the Fairs Cup final had been held over from the previous season and Leeds had won the two legged final in Hungary the week before, travelled back, played a league game and then this one in defence of the cup they had just won, when travelling wasn't that easy, especially to a country behind the iron curtain. Also, and most importantly, the late kick off in the days of 10,30pm closing made getting a pint a bugger of a job.
Never before. The last team to do well without winning in 90 minutes was Czechoslovakia in 1976 - back when the main tournament started at the semi finals. Both them and West Germany needed extra time in their respective semis, and of course went to penalties in the final.
I guarantee their social media feeds will be filled with people sending them vids of celebrations at full time.
At least he has touched the ball. Andy King ? The referee has had more contact with the ball then him. The dream is over. Boxed well above their weight and put England and Roy Hodgson to shame.
That's the ridiculousness of the format - a team finishing 3rd with no wins can qualify. All you have to do not finish last and your virtually guaranteed to be through. They should have stuck with 4 groups.
