Also the fact that he is on the bench again tells it's own story. I guess myself and others are not the only ones that are questioning him.
I don't think anyone is raving about him. Some just think it's stupid to write him off so quickly, especially given the lack of alternatives.
I think we paid £2.5m for him. Which is a lot for someone who doesn't seem effective in the what seems to be the preferred formation. Which is not his fault. But if we don't sign another striker we surely can't loan him out.
Henry seems to have got an extension to that contract which says he has to play in every league game.
I think if the boy is given a bit more then 1) last 10mins per game 2) a consistent run in first team, playing the full 90 minutes he will improve 3) We are a club that has wasted money on more proven players and given them more time - why can't this little luxury be given to someone who has jumped up a lot of divisions in a very short time
Baffled that some fans are surprised that Polter has looked better this season, as if thats not how football/life works. The lad came over from Germany not speaking a word of English, not having a clue about the ways of the English game, and was expected to perform/score straight away. Hilarious. On the subject of Washington, I'm surprised jfh hasn't used him as a pairing with Polter, with perhaps chery on the left/top of the diamond in midfield. Would admittedly leave us pretty light in the midfield 4 but I can't believe he hasn't tried it yet, especially at home. Washington isn't a lone striker, never has been, never will be. I could see him and polter forming a Zamora/Austin style partnership.
Good observation re Polter LC We've had a number of strikers in at the club who have started incredibly well (Mackie, Agyemang) and then faded into obscurity. Far better to have a player who takes a little while to settle but then performs regularly - Ferdinand, Furlong, Austin It is difficult for any manager who is getting results to change a formation or style of play in the hope that this might bring better results. I still think that there is a good striker in Washington, but limited opportunities off the bench are always going to make it difficult for him to prove this
Maybe, but he's ordinary at best. It's daft to play Cousins out of position just to accommodate a very average Karl Henry. With five players currently competing for two CM positions, Henry should be not be a starter imo.
Think JFH is correct to play Henry a lot. He is good in his position and has the experience we lack otherwise in the Squad. Also think he's right to play Cousins and just the one wide man in the three, especially away from home, where playing 2 out and out wingers would often be suicidal.
You have to watch Henry a lot to understand his nothingness. He's like a pinball bouncing between opposition players, always looking eager but rarely achieving anything, like one of those annoying dogs that would chase the ball when you were playing in the park. OK you've finally got the ball, but you don't know what to do with it now do you?
I think both Furlong and Austin didn't take this long to score league goals. As for getting results and changing play, what about Barnsley and Preston? He also had plenty of opportunities to get in the team last season but failed to. If he scores goals he will get into the team but he doesn't that's why he sits on the bench. I am amazed that the department that needs strengthening, he sits on the bench. That should tell you everything.
