I assume you are joking, but it is revealing ! Lloyd Doyley & Adrian Mariappa & Gifton N-W all qualify. Adrian is possibly the latest, although theremust be some others. My point is the paucity of numbers here is an issue for us. That said, Sancho & Galvez indicate how difficult it is.
HT 0-0. Just realised that number 4 is Dan Phillips - back from his loan at Gillingham. From one relegated side to another...
Roy visiting the Palace twice this week then ! https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...oy-hodgson-receive-honours-buckingham-palace/ Congratulations on a personal note to him - shame it didn’t work out here .
Apparently Rob Edwards, the Forest Green manager, has already said that he won't be leaving Forest Green next season.
Or what will happen is none of these will get the job for whatever reason then fans will get in a flap and annoyed again: It’s good to see some articles about us and Adam does a good job but sometimes they can be an issue as people believe every word or use it to vent even more against the club. Even seem Adam Leventhal get criticism and abuse from fans who clearly have nothing good to say about the club. just for writing an article Lets be honest unless the new manager starts well he wont get much time to build anything at the club as there will be pressure from fans and owners straight away . People say we need to think long term and support the manager but that isn’t going to last if we lose 2/3 games early on.
We’ll see if this happens.. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/20122806.watford-hope-head-coach-appointed-end-season/ Hope = might do if anyone wants the job .
A lot of this I agree with. The players brought in have just not been good enough for the PL. There will always have to be a balance between those who are good enough and those we can afford, but it seems pointless if they are only playing for us because they were not good enough elsewhere. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/20122777.watfords-season-ended-disastrous-relegation/
Some fans will expect instant results and owners are going to be the same . Next manager has no chance unless they do well .
True, but fans clamouring for a complete clear-out are, in my opinion, going to be in for a shock. The article seems to suggest (correctly) that many of those bought during last summer were good enough & better for the Championship - which is where we will be playing. so I suspect that the number of newcomers won't be as high as people are hoping for. I've no doubt that the likes of Dennis & Sarr will leave, but I suspect (and hope) the club will do everything it can to retain the likes of Samir, Kamara and Cucho, and maybe even persuade Etobo to stay another season. If one of the reader comments in the article is true, it sounds like persuading Sierralta to stay will sadly be in the too hard basket.
Yet again I can only reiterate the wise words of GT. Watford are a top 30 club. No more, no less. And he said that when it was a lot easier to compete in the top flight with limited resources. Now, as we see, it's extremely difficult. I think this squad is better then most Championship squads ,including those with more money, support etc. The article didn't do anything for me. I think the owners have done an extraordinary job in many respects. The turnover of head coaches hasn't worked , but the scorn of all the 'pundits' is based mostly on the fact that we don't do it that way in the UK. My specific frustration is in our ability to develop & keep youngsters. Sancho, and then Galvez really really annoys me, as it takes away one route where we can compete with the bucket loads of cash elsewhere.
As I say the fans calling for long term stability or young players to be signed will be the first to call for a change if things don’t start well. We do need a freshness and more connection to the team and club but we can only do that by winning games ( I bet they all become “likeable “ if that happens ) which then might lead to promotion . And potentially with the same issues regarding squad depth and quality . We are probably stuck in the middle in that sense. Years in the Championship might be ideal for some but many will get fed up and financially bad for the club .
That has really always been the case - bar a period in the mid-80s - and since the amount of money available to clubs/players became obscene, it has only become worse. To be honest, I struggle to think of any top class players we have developed and moved on, never mind developed and kept this century. We had high hopes for plenty of youngsters but those hopes were always dashed - I think Gino recognised that.
