hi fellas! yarmouth,2 00: modest fare.MOTHER OF DRAGONS won at this meeting 12 months ago,in identical conditions, and though she was in better form then, she still holds claims,as shes still on a fair mark, despite having shown not too much so far this season. fontwell,2 10: EDDY has been knocking hard on the door the last twice, and the form has a solid look to it,because the third was miles away on both starts, and he can compete off the same mark today.big shout.
Heavy ground at Haydock and Soft at Yarmouth, welcome to Summer. In the 4.30 Yarmouth I noticed Verdigris, a filly who made an awful start for Ruth Carr after leaving Clive Cox. She finished tailed off in a 10F Pontefract race, which was a run too bad to be true and it was a funny old race where six of the ten runners finished beaten more than 25 lengths, a fairly remarkable occurrence in a 1M 2F Handicap race. A much better effort from Verdigris next time when second in a Redcar handicap and she returned to the same track to run out a cosy enough winner next time, in what looked an improved and promising effort. Verdigris ran off 61 last time and is now up to 68 but that need not be a stopper. Of more concern may be the soft ground today, as it was good to firm last time. Market moves indicate that perhaps there is some dubiety about Verdigris on the more testing going but she is untried on the surface so far and coming here after what looked like her best effort last time, I went with her at 5/1 today. The Johnston horse is favourite at a well supported 11/4 but she has not won since she was 2YO and I decided to pass for that reason. 4.30 Yarmouth Verdigris 5/1
Heavy ground at Yarmouth in the end. Verdigris came there travelling well 2F out but then found nothing. I'll give her another chance when back on faster ground. Slightly sad to see 2000 Guineas runner up Glory Awaits in that race today. I recall having my doubts when he was raised hugely by the official Handicapper for being runner up at 150/1 behind Dawn Approach. A world away from that these days.
