If I'm being honest, there are one or two I'd build a team around next year. This is regardless of what division we are in. Robles - Looks a reliable keeper and looks like he is a bit of a leader. Apparently a very good pro behind the scenes too. Wober - Hasn't done much wrong. Looks like he could survive in the lower reaches of the PL. He'd be OK in the Championship. Cresswell - He's big, strong, sticks his head in where it hurts and is a good organiser at the back. Him and Wober would be a solid partnership. Adams - He'd excel in the Championship. Not sure he'd want to hang around but if we could persuade him then it would be huge. Sinisterra - He's our best player but we haven't seen enough of him. Hopefully nobody comes calling for him due to his injury ravaged season. Generally speaking he has been injury free all his career until he came here. James - only if we are in the Championship though. He's proven at that level, has pace to burn and will work very hard. The rest I'm happy to listen to offers for but there's a few that HAVE to leave if we are to be successful. These are.... Meslier, Cooper, Struijk, Llorente, Koch, Kristensen, Ayling, Firpo, Forshaw, Harrison, Bamford, Rodrigo, Gelhardt, Shackleton.
Yes mate....Fulham or whoever will be including him for a cut price £8M. Surely you've seen this movie before ?
Aaronson can’t handle the physicality of the premier league, no way he survives in the championship where they’re allowed to kick you.
I hope we give our youngsters a chance in the Championship. I think Joseph, Perkins and Gray especially show signs of the composure we've been missing for the last 3 years. I do think thst we've got to get away from buying prospects and build a team to get us out of probably the most competitive league in the world but we do have some decent prospects. Absolutely gutted how Orta has ruined this club. He paid far too much for very average players compared to what other clubs signed. We could have got Palhinha, Solomon and possibly even Periera for the money we paid for Rutter. Citeh paid £15m for Alvarez. West Ham paid a £5m initial loan fee for Benrahma. Our scouting network need sacking.
Sam's comments on the quality of the bench he had available and ignoring Rutter in favour of keeping an injured Rodrigo on the pitch don't bode well for team selection, performance or morale against Spurs.
Thing with Gnonto is… how many 19 year olds thrive consistently in the Prem? It's rare. Wingers are notoriously inconsistent at the best of times. He was a surprise package for a bit…and everyone got carried away. Everyone ranted for him to be picked, slagged off JM for not playing him sooner. By Christmas everyone had decided he was going to Man City for £50m. Now he's a liability apparently. Maybe sides worked him out a bit, paid him more attention, wound him up. Or marschball suited him? Perish the thought
I think your middle line sums up how our fans react to every new player. The U21s were it for a while, bring 'em on, give 'em a go, play Gelhardt, play Greenwood etc. They were, then everyone said they were crap. Now the first team have confirmed how crap they are, the U21s are flavour of the month again.
Marsch ball might have suited him as his only tactic towards the end was give it to Gnonto and see if he can make something happen. For what it’s worth we need to start planning for a first time promotion. Apart from the top two the championship was poor quality last season, as proven by the teams in the playoff final. Nearly all the top six were lower points total than previous seasons. I honestly don’t believe any of the squad that were promoted under Bielsa has got the stamina or the heart to do it again. So a clear out is needed. Then we have to appoint a really good coach and personally I’d break the bank and try to persuade Brendan Rogers, he isn’t getting the Chelsea or Tottenham gigs.
