For those of you old enough to remember him Alan McDonald(Macca) was a Rangers legend. One player Macca didn't get on with was a certain Mr Mark Hughes. During both players peak they had some classic battles on (and possibly off) the pitch. Whenever these two players met you could be sure something would happen. The most memorable incident for all of us old-timers was in the 1992/93 season. For the past few seasons before this, Hughes had made a habit of getting QPR players, and Mcdonald in particular, booked or sent off. This night proved pay back. In front of a live television audience. Macca went through Hughes with a two-footed tackle down the back of the legs, leaving stud marks like you have never seen before. Hughes went off and Macca was booked to the biggest ovation heard on the night from the Rangers supporters. These days, straight red! Hughes had a very nasty streak as a player, and that might make him a good manager, but I doubt it.
Was talking about exactly the same thing this morning , my old grandad ( 89 ) tells me that story everytime Hughes name is mentioned. He will not be a happy R is Hughes does take over.
If he keeps us up in the Prem I'll forgive him his spat with MacDonald, his nasty streak and, yes, even his hair...!
Macca and Hughesy battles were great and were things that memories are made of. Now they would both be red carded in the changing rooms as they would have intent to hurt each other.... oh those days were fun.
Agree Abu, some of our players deserve a rocket up thier ass. JB the socialite lol more like a white Chris Eubank
For ****'s sake...he ain't our manager yet and some are already knocking him!! He was a very good player and.....hard as nails with a nasty streak. Some of our pussys could do with that nasty streak up their back-sides!!
Whatever I may have thought of Mark Hughes before,if as seems very likely,he becomes our manager,he will have my 100% support, and I hope that aaplies to all true Rangers fans. His record at man City and Blackburn was pretty good and a win percentage of over 40% is very impressive. If he achieves that for us, we will stay in the Promised Land(where I come from)!
