A case of huge promise still waiting to be fulfilled. Fluffed a great chance to give Arsenal the lead against Forest last night, having been set up by Saka. I'd be surprised if we were looking seriously at him.
Not such a clever idea. What if he fails the medical or can't agree terms? The Newcastle board would have even more egg on their face than when they lost to Cambridge on Saturday! Most boards only speak to the press when it's a 'done deal'.
What's happened/happening with Bushiri? Seen comment he has left permanently but can find nothing on here.
OK, checked Wiki and found he is on loan to Hibs for rest of season. That could be good for him, if he gets playing time.
Put this on the cup thread but it's also relevant here: "Todd Cantwell missed Sunday’s game at Charlton due to illness and with speculation swirling that clubs including Newcastle and Leicester are interested in signing the attacking midfielder this month, Smith said the 23-year-old should be involved on Wednesday." “There’s been no developments at all,” he said. “Todd has been ill, that’s why he wasn’t in the squad at the weekend, he didn’t train on Monday as he was still feeling ill. I expect him to train today and to be in the squad.” https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...normann-rashica-return-gilmour-injury-8612676
Latest striker rumour: https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/c...-transfer-agreement-for-qpr-star-the-verdict/ Not a prolific scorer and no PL experience, but has a number of caps for Scotland.
Also rumoured to be interested in Lewes young winger Oliver Tanner. One for the future if genuine interest
Newcastle United have signed New Zealand striker Chris Wood from Burnley for £25m. The 30-year-old has agreed a contract at St James' Park until the end of the 2023-24 season.
Seeing their financial status, is there anyone from Derby who would either be one for the future or benefit competition for places now?
It's interesting to see the reaction from Burnley where there's concern about who will replace Wood but they're also amazed at receiving £25m for a player near the end of his career to fund a replacement and more.
I'd rather have a player who can score at PL level and is integrated into the first team rather than the money if I were them!
I was thinking the same just a week or so ago! I came to the conclusion only Max Bird and possibly Jason Knight. But I suspect they both, but the former especially, may have their sights set on higher things given who they are linked with and I would worry Knight is too much of a midget for our already lightweight (literally) squad. EDIT: Just seen the Derby Telegraph claims we made an enquiry about Bird, along with Brentford, WBA and Bournemouth.
Yeah weird situation for them, as Zogean points out they've lost a proven goalscorer, but got way over market value for him. In all the scenarios they planned for this window, I suspect having £25m to replace Wood wasn't something they anticipated!
