I thought it was a good contest with plenty of chances for both sides.

Yes, I agree, a tough fought affair, this match could have gone either way, especially if the USA player was red carded (last person, goal scoring opportunity) and Germany had scored from the resulting penalty kick. Also for the USA penalty, which they scored, the initial point of contact was outside of the box.

Ouch, that's a tough way to lose a semi final, freak OG in second minute of injury time.

Nevertheless respect to the England team who have won a lot of support for the women's game during their run in the World Cup, and presented an extremely united and dignified front all the way through.

Germany in the 3rd place play off! Balls.

Watched the match, as I have most of the others with my daughters. This was a very even contest that seemed destined for ET, but as us R's know only too well, you have to convert your chances during a match - England had several shots glancing the woodwork and were ultimately done in with that late, very unlucky, typical R's OG.

I know 3rd place matches often don't count for much (some here would say that applies to the whole WWC), but the game against Germany should be an interesting contest.

Here in Canada, there's quite the sports rivalry with USA teams (in any sport), so we'll all be rooting for Japan in the final.

Sorry, no offence meant - up here we tend to find the USA support a bit fanatical and OTT, and not just this sport - the USA v Canada Olympics match did not improve matters where the ref was hassled by players to call the keeper out regarding the possession time rule, that resulted in USA tying up the match up and going on to win.

Yes, and that Solo woman's antics in delaying the penalty taken by Germany's Sasic very much OTT. Gamesmanship, poor sportsmanship; she surely should have got a yellow card rather than just a rebuke from the referee? Don't like her at all.

    Neither does Watford_R :emoticon-0136-giggl

I watched last night's game at work and thought the Japanese coach was somewhat rude about the England team before the game. I hope he changed his tune afterwards as the Lionesses bested them all over the pitch and throughout the match generally. He got lucky there. A very hollow victory indeed. I hope the U.S smash them.

You certainly have a point there, QPR999. Sod it, think I'll just watch the Final with my neutral sun glasses on..........well I'll try. Cannot as yet summon up a lot of interest in this third place deal on Saturday.

Well done England! Not often England beat Germany in World Cups - and with a penalty.

Thought Lkengland played with a lot of control...and surprisingly Germany did not.
Well done Lioness a completely unexpected 3rd place. Shows what a bit of belief and passion can do

I watched this off & on at a farewell BBQ party for my daughter who is leaving home to go to university in Paris next Sat.

I bet that German coach was a real sour puss after the match!

I'm just trying to give you lads a heads up. The Site is coming down hard on blokes now who they perceive to have stepped out of line. The Supermods currently have me up on charges of "inciting racial hatred". One more incident and I'm banned permanently with no chance of parole.
