Me and Mrs Smug have had a mad year, even by our standards, but this could top the lot. We've not really worked since March, since leaving Mr Tonna who told me about Glen Fuhrman, and would like one last job. We have 2 meetings today to discuss a couple of offers. One is in Bonnieux, Provence, and the other is a 100 acre estate in Essex. They're both pretty standard roles managing the estate and staff, project managing new works, security, etc. But we've also been asked to go to a fabulous estate in Dorset where the work would be incredibly varied and interesting. The owner has a house in France which I'd oversee. I'd be involved in various projects one of which would be moving and eventually displaying one of the biggest collections of WW2 memorabilia and vehicles in the world ... the only concern is that they're from 'the wrong side'. I've attached a link for anyone interested but have only told Mrs Smug that it's an 800 year old Manor house. So, WTF do I do! https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/24/the-man-who-sleeps-in-hitlers-bed
Got to be the latter mate, any ww2 memorabilia whatever side has my interest. (ps. If you want anyone to wash his tanks I’m your man)
What an amazing opportunity, wrong side of the war or not every item will have a back story and would be fascinating to research them. You can bet your life not every solider who's equipment he has collected was a rabid nazi but a human being having to do a job for his country
We're just having a coffee before the 'French' interview in London so seeing what people reckon. Some of the stuff he has is mad, the door from Hitler's cell from where he wrote Mein Kampf!!!
You should, perhaps, consider the fact that the novelty of the Adolf proposition would probably wear off after a short while . . . . would the job have the same appeal without that
got to be the one in Dorset with the WW!! collection in France. doesn't matter which side they're from, it would be an honour to be involved with that.
The Essex one would be for me if it was to be my last job. The reasons would be back in England and more settled plus I’m not sure that my granddad would forgive me for looking after Nazi memorabilia after what him and his mates went through to knack them. Good luck in all the interviews.
Sounds like the Dorset job could become a long haul and very involved project, personally for a 'wind down' contract before finally putting my feet up a couple of years of low stress easy life sounds good. However if I were 10 years younger??? (I am same age as you).
Folk who ask for advice don't usually want it. They just want an audience while they talk to themselves Terry Pratchett
No, but he said some interesting things about them. " Lots of people like erotic but nothing kinky - the difference between using a feather and using a chicken"
