Fitbaws back. Rangers go to Fir Park today for the first game of the new season. Canny whack it. After what seems like an eternity having to sit through a turgid European championships with only England's and Celtic's humiliation giving us some relief from the tedium the real deal starts today. We have done some good business during the break bringing in some quality and experience. Can't see many new faces starting in this one though. It's a wee bit too soon for Barton and Kranjar. Mibbe see big Clint getting a run out though. Windass too is likely to start. Tough test for our first game of the season especially as we have only had one pre season fixture so hard to call. Any victory will do though and a result akin to last seasons debut would be excellent. I'll go for 3-1 to the Gers. THE BERZ ARE BACK WATP.
Good game, lovely possession football, two crackin goals from Tavernier and Waghorn. Defensively we remain a worry. A better team, or even a match sharper Motherwell, would have been 1 maybe 2 up in the first half. The referee made **** of it. Motherwell goalie handled the ball outside his area and there was a stick on penalty for handball we were denied. All in all a pretty good start to our season. Thought we started this game really nervous. The defence, especially Kiernan were found wanting on two or three occasions. They weren't helped by the fact that Halliday was playing his holding midfield role too far up the pitch and not covering runners from midfield. As the game went on we settled and played pretty well although some bad finishing from Motherwell helped us out. Thought Windass looked good when he came on. He has plenty of pace and is very direct. Happy with the result and a clean sheet. Think we will improve when Barton slots into the holding midfield role.
Windlass did look good and had an immediate impact. Don't understand why Forrester was taken off. I thought he was having a game.
