1. Alan Dicks 2. Fred Ford 3. Terry Cooper 4. Pat Beasley 5. Gary Johnson/Joe Jordan - I can't split these. By the end of next season, Derek McInnes will feature, I hope as high as number 2 or 3.
Alan Dicks Gary Johnston Joe Jordan Terry Cooper Can't decide now between 2 because I don't think we had enough time with them Dennis Smith (wanted to see much more of him till the club shafted him because he won't sell Cole) John Ward (another who was shafted, not just by us but also the gas, he must hate Bristol)
1) Fred Ford.. 2) Alan Dicks.. 3) Joe Jordan.. 4) Gary Johnson.. 5) Pat Beasley.. Fred Ford and Joe Jordan for pure hard work, endurance and man management, bringing the team through difficult times with very little funding...
No Terry Cooper? He brought some great players in for nothing or hardly nothing and turned us around...
I can only offer my selection from managers in my lifetime of watching city. 1- Alan Dicks without doubt 2-Gary Johnson 3- Joe Jordan 4- Terry Cooper 5- Danny Wilson
Ive not been around aslong as you lot so here goes 1 - Gary Johnson 2 - Derek McInnes 3 - Danny Wilson (just) 4 - Keith Millen 5 - Brian Tinion Yep thats all the managers ive seen worthy of a top 5
In my humble opinion Redrobin; There are bad managers who stood no chance of success, mostly listed by Massive above. One could also include Peter Doherty but there were extenuating circumstances with a split dressing room caused mainly by HD promising the '55 promo team contract terms in the excitement of the moment. But I would say the worst failure was actually Danny Wilson not because he was a bad manager but because he totally failed to get promotion when he had pretty good backing from the board and his totally negative attitude in the play off final against Brighton. PS for any Gas reading this; Mark Magoo was equally as negative as the Brighton manager that day. Wait until he goes back in his shell because he was the same at Reading, Leicester and Wolves later on!
Alan Dicks Alan Dicks Alan Dicks Alan Dicks Gary Johnson I suggest Alan Dicks for the first 4 because he took the club across that enormous chasm between journeymen and craftsmen, that only GJ has come anywhere near to achieving (which is why Johnson crept in at no.5). This is as much a credit to the fans who were around at the time of AD, for their patience and insight during the 9 YEARS it took to turn a third division club into one who could dance with the prima donnas. Let us hope McDel can gate crash the party of two, and that the fans of TODAY can exercise a similar level of patience and insight as did those from the class of '76.
Here is an old one with Terry Cooper in charge...1984...
If Shiny 'had' been born on the poor side of Bristol as a rovers fan he would of seen this number of managers nearly every season!
