5.5m is a he'll of a lot for a championship defender in the last year of his contract. Credit to the club though. In the past they would have offered 2.5m and then walked away and probably left the position unfilled for the season. They seem to be doing things properly now.
Hopefully he's decent. Has an unfortunate vacant expression in most pictures, reminiscent of Titus Bramble
The Daily STAR said, The Scottish centre-back has signed a five-year deal at St. James' Park in a deal worth £5.5m. Hanley, 24, represents Rafa Benitez's seventh summer signing after Vurnon Anita, Jesus Gamez, Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie and Matz Sels.. Daily Star Sports Team up to its usual factual standards again..LOL
Lucas is god awful. Rafa was always known for having one bad egg amongst his signings. Lucas would be a whole chicken coop. Wijnaldum is going...that much is obvious. We now need a player maker the middle. Will Hughes.
like defenders like this lad .... scottish tough and needs a chance ...they battle like hell for you ..likes of jagelka . lescott done well ,when given the chance ..not even a gamble in my eyes ..international as well 24 years old mint
Another crap player This is going to go horribly wrong and by September people will be saying Rafa is clueless in the fizzy.
What exactly is your rationale for deeming him crap? Or do you just do this for every player we buy? He has significant Premiership and Championship experience, the captain of his club and the Scottish national team, and both us and Norwich were fighting for him, thus showing is thought of in high regard. Plus he looks a hell of a lot better than the departing Saylor and Colo, and a very decent back up to Mbemba and Laecelles.

What isn't crap in your opinion?[/QUOTE] That we have? Hmmmm People will once again attack my opinion that we will struggle and are signings are crap, but before anyone starts getting personal let's wait and see.
Despite the fact they proved they were more than capable in the Prem last season and were our 2 best players? Why do think Hanley is crap? How many times have you seen him play? And you state we would be in a better position with the players that went down, so are you seriously suggesting our defence would be better off with Saylor and Colo despite the fact they've both been dogshit for at least the last 3 years (or most of his career in Saylors case)?
Despite the fact that you seem to be judging Gini on 6 games? I.e. the games he was bothered, and ignoring the massive swathes of the season when he didn't give a ****. Mbemba was consistently good most of the season and Laecelles looked a massive improvement on the others when he came in.
